Please donate to the American Heart Association in honor of Harrison! We are participating in the Heart Walk on May 11th to honor him as a survivor and to raise money for more funding and research.
Harrison was born prematurely at 32 weeks and diagnosed with L-TGA, multiple VSDs, and pulmonary stenosis. He had to spend 60 days in the cardiac ICU and multiple hospital stays over the last 2 and a half years.
Harrison had his first open heart surgery when he was 14 months old. Unfortunately, the surgery did not go as planned and they were unable to make the proper corrections and had to go with plan B. Days later while in the CICU, Harrison went into complete heart block and was diagnosed with electric heart disease. This diagnosis resulted in Harrison undergoing another open heart surgery to receive a permanent pacemaker. He will need open heart surgery within the next few years with the hope that his coronary arteries have made space for the originally planned surgery.
From the looks of Harrison, you would not know the seriousness of his heart condition. He is a spunky, rambunctious 2 year old. Everyday I am so lucky to have him. There are so many individuals who have this diagnosis that aren’t as lucky as Harrison. Everyday with him is truly a gift.
L-TGA only affects 1% of individuals who have a congenital heart disease and only 0.5% of the population, this means only 5,000 in the US are diagnosed! As of now, there is no cure but help us fight for one!
